Due to the current economic climate, rising operating costs, and increased expenses, The Wheels Program is implementing temporary operating constraints. These adjustments ensure we can continue serving our clients in a fair, equitable, and sustainable manner.

Ride Allotments & Limits
Local Rides: Rides within our home base of New Milford remain unlimited.
Operating Radius: Our maximum service area is 23 miles from our home office at 40 Main Street, New Milford, CT.
Mileage Caps: * Round-trip rides under 40 miles total are unlimited.
Round-trip rides over 40 miles total are limited to one ride per week per client (and the destination must still fall within our 23-mile operating radius).

Wheels is a curb to curb service. You must be independently mobile or have a caregiver to assist you.
Wheels has a wheelchair accessible bus, which can accommodate standard size wheelchairs, scooters or other mobility aids up to the maximum physical dimensions and constraints of the bus.
The Wheels bus has a wheelchair lift. Drivers are trained to safely operate the wheelchair lift and secure mobility devices on the bus. The max weight of the lift including mobility devices is 800lbs.
Passengers that have trouble with steps may use the lift to access the vehicle.
Respirators and portable oxygen are permitted aboard the bus and must be secured by the rider.
SERVICE ANIMALS: Wheels welcomes friendly service animals on board the vehicles. Service animals are defined as animals (usually a dog) that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Service animals must be secured by a leash. Drivers cannot help passengers carry animals.

We operate on a first come, first service basis and request that you contact us with your appointment information as soon as possible.
Wheels does not operate as an on-demand service and cannot help with emergency medical transportation.
All rides are booked based on vehicle and driver availability.

Wheels does not offer on-demand same day service.
Our volunteer drivers receive advance notice of their schedules, therefore booking closes the day before.

Days of Operation: Our service runs Monday through Thursday. We are currently closed on Fridays and for federal holidays.
Office Hours: 9am-Noon. Voicemail available 24/7. All messages will be answered on our next operating day.
Vehicle Operating Hours: 8am - 4pm
Exceptions are occasionally permitted pending driver and vehicle availability.

You must be independent and mobile or have a caregiver, friend or family member to assist you.
Our drivers are unable to physically assist clients aside from securing wheelchairs and mobility devices.

Please keep in mind during inclement weather and unsafe road conditions, we may cancel our service. If the New Milford Senior Center is closed due to weather, we are also closed.
If your home /driveway is not safely accessible we cannot provide service.
